Koji and his life as a runner

Born in Japan. I ran track in junior high and high school, mostly shorter distances, and I did not call myself a runner back then. I have lived most of my adult life in northern California and now live in San Francisco. Found love of distance running when I ran my first half marathon in 2006 and finished in 1:53:39. A month later, I started to train for San Francisco Marathon with San Francisco AIDS Foundation group. And the rest was history. I also re-discovered joy of running on track at my first Gay Games in Köln, Germany, and have been training with San Francisco Track and Field Club since then. As soon as Boston Marathon is done, I switch gears and start training for track events. My focus is 1,500m or a Mile with 400m and 800m as potential double when schedule and my energy level allow. I have had plenty of injuries, and I am in the recovery mode. It’s been slow going but believing I can come back the level I was a couple of years ago.

When I am not running, I am a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Product Management professional in the technology industry. Also, I love photography and have a separate photo blog going. I’d love to learn sports photography, especially capturing runners but it’s been hard, because I am usually running. =)

2015 Races

Due to several injuries, I spent most of the second half of 2013 and first several months recovering. I am getting back into the swing of things, but it takes time. Following is what I am planning to compete this year. Let’s see how it goes.

4/20 – Boston Marathon – My 5th Boston Marathon. Had to skip a year but glad to be going back!
6/20 – Pride Track and Field Meet – Hosted by our own San Francisco Track & Field Club.
